Lecture on the Topic “The Bharatiya Itihas, Culture and Constitution”, organised by the Department of Political Science and IQAC, Govt. Model College Borkhola.
A distinguished lecture session was organised by the Department of Political Science and IQAC, Govt. Model College Borkhola on 24th September 2025. The programme was graced by the presence of Respected Shri Hemanta DhingMazumdar ji, National General Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Itihas, SankalanYojna, New Delhi, who delivered a lecture on the topic entitled “The Bharatiya Itihas, Culture and Constitution”. The programme began with homage to the late Zubeen Garg, the musical and cultural icon of Assam, who departed recently, followed by the lighting of the lamp and an inaugural song presented by the Higher Secondary students of the college. Dr. Sanchuma Goyary, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, anchored the programme.
The chief guest of the programme was felicitated with an Uttorio and a renewable traditional bag by the principal of the college. He was also presented a book entitled “Navigating the Diversity in India: Plurality and its Challenges”, first edition and published by the Research Cell in collaboration with the IQAC, Govt. Model College by Dr Dipankar Roy, who is a co-editor of the book along with IQAC, coordinator, Dr Mofidur Rahman and a memento as a token of love, which was presented by Dr Madhumita Ghosh, Assistant Professor & HOD, Bengali.
The other esteemed dignitaries, namely the principal of the college, were felicitated with an Uttorio by Dr Suroshikha Debnath, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Dr. Mofidur Rahman, HOD, Political Science and Coordinator, IQAC, Govt. Model College by Dr Rupashree Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Education.
The respected principal, Dr. Sahabuddin Ahmed, delivered the welcome speech who emphasising the importance of the topic. Similarly, Dr Mofidur Rahman also emphasised the importance of history, culture and Constitution.
The chief guest delivered a thought-provoking deliberation on the history, culture and the importance of the constitution. He highlighted the importance of regional history and how the regional histories were neglected by Western and British historians, thus distortion Indian history. He also emphasised the protection, respect and taking pride in one’s culture. Lastly, he concluded with the importance of the Indian Constitution. The lecture session was followed by a Question-and-Answer session in which students and faculty members asked their queries. Lastly, a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Joydeep Goswami, Assistant Professor & HOD, Sociology. The lecture session was concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
To honour the contribution of the late Zubeen Garg, Dr Dipankar Roy and Dr Sanchuma Goyary, in the presence of the chief guest, Hemanta Dhing Mazumdar ji and the respected principal of the college, planted a sapling in the name of the late Zubeen Garg inside the college premises. The programme was attended by all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the College along with a large number of enthusiastic students.
