Establishment
Government Model College, Borkhola (GMCB) was set up in the year 2020 in Cachar district under Assam Government’s initiative to set up 15 model colleges in rural areas in the State with Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan’s (RUSA) financial assistance to provide quality Higher education to the students of rural areas of Borkhola. Out of total model colleges to be set up, nine were planned to set up exclusively for women and other six were to set up as co-educational colleges and Government Model College, Borkhola is one of those six co-educational colleges that was set up in the rural area of Borkhola. Like other Model colleges, GMCB, too was set up at the cost of Rs. 9.00 Crores and was inaugurated in the digital mode by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi Ji on 3rd February, 2019 and became functional with its first batch of students from 2020-2021’s academic session. Unlike other state colleges set up and provincialized by the state Government, GMCB, like other newly created Model colleges of the state, is set up and directly run by the State Government.
The College
The college offers Undergraduate Pass course in the subjects such as English, Economics, Political Science and Sociology following CBCS system under the affiliation of Assam University, Silchar (Central University). The Higher Secondary course in Arts Stream is also made available in the college under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). The college provides library along with reading room facilities for the students and have large spacious classrooms for conducting classes. The college, at present, is having a group of young, energetic, experienced and dynamic faculty members who provide blended education that is based on learner-centered approach that includes individual mentorship of students, regular carrier counselling and guidance for various competitive examinations both at the state and the national level. The college gives priority for the all-round development of the students that ensures that the students learn their courses imbibing leadership skills, professional skills with special attention given to inculcating values in them.
Location
The college is located at DHOLCHERA, Borkhola nearby NATRIP point and is situated 20 kms away from Silchar Railway Station. The college is well commutable having all sorts of road transport available to reach the college campus. The infrastructure of the college is constructed on its campus that spreads over 38 (thirty eight) bighas of land. The infrastructure plan of the college also includes residential facilities for teaching, non-teaching staff and for the female students.
