Guest Lecture on “Basics of Writing an Academic Paper”

The Department of English jointly with IQAC, Govt. Model College, Borkhola organized an invited guest lecture on the basics of academic writing on 22^nd January, 2025. The resource person for the lecture on “Basics of Writing an Academic Paper” was Ms. Sadia Khan, Lecturer, English language Centre, of OP Jindal Global University, Haryana. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Jasmine Dewry, Assistant Professor of English. The program convenor Dr. Suroshika Debnath, Assistant Professor of English then delivered a thoughtful welcome speech highlighting the importance of academic writing in NEP 2020.  The audience was then treated to a beautiful musical performance by Moumita Deb, a student of UG 4th semester. Following that, Miss Usha Kumari Shah, Assistant Professor of English, felicitated the resource person with a traditional uttoriiyo. Dr. Mofidur Rahman, IQAC Coordinator then addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of academic writing in today’s world. Dr. Shalim M. Hussain, Head, Dept. of English then addressed the gathering. The resource person delivered her lecture, providing valuable insights into the basics of writing an academic paper. She explained the thinking process and writing process involved in research besides presenting the key steps involved in research endeavour. Her presentation was informative, engaging, and highly relevant to the students. The lecture was followed by an interactive session, where students asked thoughtful questions to the speaker, who responded with clarity and expertise. The resource person Ms. Sadia Khan and Dr. Shalim M. Hussain, Head, Department of English then donated books to the college library, which was a generous gesture. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Jasmine Dewry.
